Film Synopsis:

Liberty Hill: An Unpolished Jewel shines a spotlight on the storied past and promising future of Liberty Hill, a historic neighborhood in North Charleston, South Carolina, founded in 1871 by 4 freedmen. Once a beacon of self-reliance with nearly 60 thriving businesses, the community began to decline following the 1990s closure of the Charleston Naval Base and Shipyard. Today, Liberty Hill faces challenges such as vacant lots, shuttered storefronts, and aging homes all in need of repair. Yet, amidst these struggles, the documentary reveals a determined community working tirelessly to reclaim its vibrancy and preserve its rich legacy for future generations.
