Wisdom & Wordsmiths | SLAY & This Book Might Be About Zinnia

Join us for a special Wisdom & Wordsmiths: Lunch & Learn featuring acclaimed author Brittney Morris, as we explore stories that celebrate Black identity, self-expression, and belonging. This youth- and family-centered program invites young readers to enjoy a meal, dive into powerful literature, and engage in conversation with the author herself.

Together, we’ll explore Morris’s novels, SLAY and This Book Might Be About Zinnia, and reflect on how culture and identity shape the lives of young people today. Through read-aloud moments, open discussion, and a fun, interactive storytelling activity, participants will be invited to think about the communities and creativity that shape who they are.

About Brittney Morris: Brittney Morris is the bestselling author of SLAY, The Cost of Knowing, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales - Wings of Fury, and The Jump. She also writes video games and has contributed to projects such as The Lost Legends of Redwall, Subnautica: Below Zero, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, and Marvel's Wolverine. Brittney is an NAACP Image Award nominee, an ALA Black Caucus Youth Literary Award winner, and an Ignite Award Finalist. She has an economics degree from Boston University and spends her spare time reading, playing video games, and not doing enough yoga. She lives in Philadelphia.
