Wisdom & Wordsmiths | Indigo Dreaming

Step into Wisdom & Wordsmiths, a dynamic reading and learning series that connects young readers with voices from the African Diaspora. This engaging program invites participants to meet acclaimed author Dinah Johnson and explore her beautifully crafted book, Indigo Dreaming. Through the story of two young girls connected by culture, attendees will delve into themes of home, belonging, and the Black diaspora. Children will reflect on their own cultural identities and visualize their own indigo dream, drawing inspiration from the book’s themes of connection and heritage.

Following the conversation with Dinah, students will embark on an artistic journey exploring the significance of indigo, a color rich with history, tradition, and identity. Guided by Indigo Artist Nina Jameson, participants will experience the magic of indigo dyeing through interactive storytelling, movement, and hands-on creative techniques. As they engage in this immersive workshop, children will reflect on the deep connections between art, culture, and community.

This particular session of Wisdom & Wordsmiths is designed for children ages 5-9.
