The Civil Rights Act of 1964: A 60-Year Legacy of Resilience

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 is a historic legislation that outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin within the United States. A cornerstone of American democracy, the signing of the Civil Rights Act marked a pivotal moment in the ongoing struggle for civil rights and social justice. Join us at the IAAM on July 18 as we explore the enduring and profound legacy of the Civil Rights Act, its impact and significance both in South Carolina and nationally, and its relevance today.

Our esteemed panelists, including Cecil Williams – Founder of the Cecil Williams Civil Rights Museum and Dr. Ben Chavis – American Activist and Author will be joined by SC Historian Lee Bennet, who will moderate the discussion.
