Blackness re/Defined | An Evening of Art & Conversation
Join the International African American Museum (IAAM) for an evening of thought-provoking dialogue and dynamic creative expression as we celebrate the opening of re/Defined: Creative Expressions of Blackness from the Diaspora. This program will explore the ways Black artists and cultural producers have shaped narratives of identity, resisted systemic erasure, and redefined Blackness through art, music, and movement.
Through conversation and performance, we will examine how creative expression functions as both a reflection of lived experience and an assertion of agency across the African Diaspora. Featuring a curated discussion with artists and scholars, alongside a live jazz performance, this program offers an opportunity to engage deeply with the themes of the exhibition—honoring artistic traditions, reclaiming narratives, and reimagining possibilities for Black identity.
Doors will open at 5:50PM for guests to join special exhibition co-curators, Suzanne DiBella and Isabelle Britto for a private tour of the new exhibition. The program will start promptly at 7PM.
