2025 J.O.Y. | Juneteenth on the Yard

Join the International African American Museum for J.O.Y. | Juneteenth on the Yard—our annual Juneteenth celebration centered on joy, reflection, culture, and community. Honoring the date in 1865 when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas learned of their freedom, this day invites the public to experience history through music, storytelling, and shared connection.

Museum admission opens at 10:00 AM, and walk-ups are welcome based on capacity. We encourage guests to arrive early and head to the Garden by 12:00 PM, when outdoor festivities begin with family activities, food trucks, and vendor offerings. At 12:30 PM, Z93 Jamz’s Riecy G. hits the mainstage for a live broadcast — featuring music, community interviews, on-air giveaways, and real-time crowd engagement.
